Theory of Writing

A theory of writing is a structure used to explain an idea. We use this all the time because pretty much everything we do involves writing in some sort of way. Whether it be by using Facebook all the way to ordering food at a restaurant. We really take for granted writing and do not understand how often it is incorporated in our everyday lives. Without writing we would not be able to have a common communication and the world would nearly be the same. Regardless the language you speak we still are able to connect through the common meaning of our languages. With this idea of language and writing, there needs to be certain pieces in all of it being a recognition of genre, tone, audience and structure.

We have used the theory of writing so much in this class throughout the semester. Whether it be our free writes all the way to our inquiries. For example our inquiry logs all started with an inquiry and with that we formed a piece to post on our blog. Since it was on a blog we knew it could be more informal than normal and more personal. This shows how we recognized our audience and how it changed our overall writing strategy. It has helped us understand how to be a more productive writer and also be able to develop a way to get our point across. My writing approach begins with a basic idea of the prompt and then I begin brain storming and putting together various ideas. With all this you got to understand who your audience is and also what tone you should use. Once I put all this information together I begin writing and try to assemble something that correlates to all these tasks with an effective message. These strategies can honestly be used in any writing situation.

Theories for writing also come up in everyday life. We have so much to write and talk about whether it be how our day went or even experiences throughout our lives. With social media we begin to write even more and we can connect with other people we would not typical be associated with. We can write pieces about what we have learned or even on our opinions of certain situations throughout the world. This allows us to be able to display our thoughts and we can connect with common individuals that may see eye to eye with us. We can write factual information, how we feel, our values, our beliefs, etc. It is honestly really cool how we can also write about subjects that have been already discussed, but put our own opinions and new touches to the desired topics. We can pretty much make every situation in our lives into a theory for writing. Lastly, with the prominence of social media, our theory of writing will change and adapt based on the situation and place. We will continue to be able to build on our theory of writing throughout our lives.
